Pink Ink 7 tips for a Natural Look

A fresh natural face will always be trendy!  Follow our tips to rock a more natural look this time of year:

1. Of course a flawless face starts with good skin! Focus on skincare: If your skin is in bad shape, take the necessary steps to make sure you’re taking care very good care of your skin and cultivating a good
environment for healthy cells to grow.  Stay tuned for our views on five different skin care regimens!

2. Opt for a BB, CC or DD cream instead of a full coverage foundation. Or, if you’re not comfortable with coverage that’s that light, try a foundation that’s light to medium coverage. The benefits of using a BB, CC or DD cream is that the appearance is more natural and these types of products usually come with good-for-your-skin ingredients.

3. SPF! MANDATORY - not optional!

4. Focus on your brows! I’m so glad brows have been a focal point in beauty recently - and rightfully so! Spend a little time grooming and shaping your brows to enhance them so that your eye makeup can be on the lighter side.

5. If you like, skip the eye makeup altogether. If you are blonde, it may be tough since you tend to have lighter eyelashes and want some more definition; so maybe a few swipes of mascara and call it a day! For my darker-skinned beauties, many of us already have dark, defined eye lines and lashes, so work that natural beauty!

6. Take it easy on the blush. My advice would be to use a cream blush and dab it on with your fingers. When you’re using a cream product and you apply using skin-to-skin contact, it generates warmth which helps the product to blend in well with your skin and appear as natural as possible.

7. Try a clear or tinted balm for your lips. There’s nothing prettier than dabbing on a rosy lip balm for a youthful, natural look or even a nude gloss would work.

Well that's it!  7 tips for a natural look.  Try them and let us know how well you rocked your natural beauty look.  Till next time!

Three beauty tips EVERY woman should know!

Tip 1 -
The eyes are the window to the soul.  Have you heard that one before?  Well, the eyes will also let everyone know whether you had a good night's sleep or a not so great night's sleep.  So what to
do?  Make those lashes look full and thick!!  Here's an easy way to achieve this. Take your mascara wand, any mascara will do (but our favorites are the Pink Ink "Intense Lash," Arbonne's "It's a Long Story" Mascara and Mary Kay's "Ultimate Mascara").  Be sure to start at the VERY base of your lashes and WIGGLE that brush. (Think -- wiggle wiggle wiggle!). The more you wiggle, the more you get at every lash and ensure that you get the thick mascara effect.

And voila -- fake lashes without the fake lashes!

 Tip 2 -
My hair won't cooperate!!!  What do I do?
How does one deal with her frizzy, messy 'do' quickly so she can get herself and her family out the door on time?  Our best friend, the straightener will help.

Be sure to ensure that your straightener is heated up well before beginning. There are two things to remember that will ensure you do not have a bad/frizzball hair day.
One: section hair into small sections so that heat is evenly distributed to each portion.
Two: Start at the root and take that little extra time to pull the straightener through well-sectioned hair.

Skipping the sectioning and/or failing to start right at the root with the really hot straightener will ensure frizzy looking, poofy, dry and sad looking hair. And who needs that on an already crazy day?

OR you can get extensions put in and/or invest in a wig!  ALWAYS a life saver for us Pink Ink Divas! ;)

If you are looking for a good straightener, try the Moroccanoil Straightener. Heat. Perfection.

Tip 3
A piece of clothing that EVERY woman should have - the pencil skirt!

In the spring and summer you can wear it bare legged with really cute sandals and a beautiful blouse/shirt.
In the fall and winter you can wear it with nylons or tights with closed toed shoes or boots!  You can
also pair it with a beautiful print top and layer with a sweet looking sweater for those cooler days.

A black pencil skirt can be worn with so many different types of tops - blouses, dressy t's, sweaters and of all prints, colors and textures!  A must have for every wardrobe!

Let us know how these tips have helped you.  We would love to hear from you.

Top 5 Winter Beauty Tips - Pink Ink Style

The winter months can wreak havoc on your skin, nails and hair. Below you will read our top winter tips nourishing your body from the inside out.

  1. Exfoliate often during the winter months. As often as 2-3 times a week for oily skin and once a
week for dry or sensitive skin.  Squirt a little lemon juice into your favorite facial scrub to boost its
natural brightening power and exfoliating action.  Lemon juice contains citric acid, one of the five alpha-hydroxy acids that dissolve the glue that keeps dead cells stuck to your skin.
  2. SPF on your face is not just for the summer. Whether it is incorporated into your foundation or applied on its own, this important preventative measure will save on sun damage.
  3. Nail care is important this time of year as we transition from freezing weather into artificial heat. Dried-out nails are then prone
to brittleness, splitting and flaking, which is why it's important to give them some extra TLC. Maintain nails from getting too long, using acetone-free nail polish remover (it's less harsh) and applying nail serum on a daily basis. Keeping  cuticles pushed back is also key since healthy cuticles act as a barrier to bacteria entering the body, as is cutting or filing nails straight across.
  4. Hair care - to achieve silky styles without damaging your hair try getting a new cut and colour to reinvigorate dull tresses. Remove all those damaged ends by getting them cut. Start fresh; you are better off removing the split ends so that your hair can be repaired. As for colour, a great way to energize hair in the winter season is to try a couple of highlights.
                                                                                                           5. Feed your skin - certain foods can help your skin glow from the inside out, so make sure you eat plenty of oily fish like salmon and tuna (high in omega-3 which help plump up skin's collagen production), spinach and avocados (high in vitamin E, which protects skin from UV rays and cell damage) and vitamin C-rich foods like tomatoes and citrus fruits (they'll help stave off wrinkles).

Holiday Party Attire

Holiday parties are rampant this time of year, whether it’s the office party, a corporate event or a night out
Jen & Rita
after work.  So, trying to determine what to wear can be stressful.  There are so many options to choose from; casual dress, semi-formal, formal or somewhere in between. Although it is exciting to purchase a new outfit specifically for the party, it is not always necessary. Pairing a simple dress with fashionable shoes, accessories, hair and makeup can make a very dramatic statement.
Jessie - Face of Pink Ink

The trend this year is the “understated” outfit with complimentary accent pieces. Being fashion forward can also be achieved by choosing a glamorous makeup look.  This is an opportunity to try that dramatic makeup look with a red lipstick. Lighting at holiday parties is more likely darker than usual, in which you can make a statement with your makeup look, try that smokey eye that you have always wanted to try. This is the appropriate time to do it and you will look fabulous. Add a little bit of bling or glitter, have fun with it and remember to take pictures to send us.

A black dress with accessories as seen below can solidify your image!

Let us know what you like to wear during this holiday season, we love to hear from you.

Blissfully You!

We at Pink Ink are fans of makeup and helping to make a woman look her best by using this fabulous tool. However, we know that true beauty is an attitude, it comes from within - it is how a woman carries herself. In fact, we believe that a woman is at her most beautiful when she is living her
most honest and blissful life. Thanks to Saidat Vandenberg who has shared Kym Douglas' book Bliss Happens with several women across Canada -- including us at Pink Ink. Kym's book reiterates our belief that true beauty is not superficial -- it is how we feel about ourselves.

A blissful person is someone who is living her authentic life. She is not worried about what other people think of who she is, how she looks, or what she chooses to do; no, a beautifully, blissful woman's primary concern is how she feels about her choices. When a woman chooses the best for herself daily, she cannot help but be blissful. These good choices include being active, taking care of our skin, stepping out with makeup on (as little or
Kym Douglas
as much as we feel comfortable -- but enough to look polished), always educating ourselves and staying on top of our industry, being spiritual (whatever that means to us), being a good partner, and always seeking to accomplish on a daily basis.

Some think that the external representation of ourselves is superficial, and we can rationalize reasons not to take care of ourselves. Going to the Gym is not self-indulgent, it's ensuring we are healthy,
which hopefully means we live longer and are more vital on a daily basis. Wearing makeup is also not necessarily superficial. It's simply making sure we look as good as we feel. At all times, we want to represent ourselves as authentically as we can. And, if we want the world to believe we are successful, happy, influential, and a person with whom others should want to be acquainted, well then, we need to present this image.

Our Image is our Brand. If we want others to believe in who we are, even within seconds of meeting us, we need to be sure that what we are presenting is consistent. What does your Image say about you?  Remember - Your Image!  Your Brand!

If you need a little help honing in on the Brand that you would like to present to the world, do not hesitate to contact us - we are always here for you!

Out with the Old, in with the New!

Okay ladies. I would like you to take a moment for yourself -- (you can do it)! Find yourself a mirror. Take a look at your lovely face - your hair - your attire. And ask yourself this thought provoking question: are
you still wearing the same makeup look that you did in high school or during your early university days? How about your clothing? Has your style progressed at all? And your hair -- is your hairstyle dated?

If you answered "ummmmm.....well......"to any of these questions, I am going to ask you straight up - how come? No matter what, unless you are still 18 or 22, if your makeup is the same as it was 10+ years ago, it is not going to look the same on your face now as it did 10+ years ago.  No way.  No how.  You are a more mature woman now (embrace it). And with that wonderful realization comes the true facts that our skin has changed and will continue to change.  As we grow older, we are starting to have less 'vibrant' skin--and it is likely a bit more textured than the smooth, plump, dynamic faces of our youth.  Side bar - you can help this process by adopting a really good skin care routine - cleanse, tone, moisturize.  It's best to stick with one brand when choosing your skin care products as they were made to work optimally together!

And our hair also has changed. Especially if you've had children.  For some our hair is curlier, straighter, thinner or thicker.  Our bodies embrace change so allow your mind to embrace it too!

Not only have our bodies, faces, and hair matured, but styles have changed and evolved too! The more we stick to our old styles, the older we look. For real. I'll give you one very broad example that is true in 9 out of 10 cases: Thick black eye-liner does not work on most mature women. It can make eyes seem smaller and highlight the lines around the eyes.  This look is aging you!!! (and no we are not pointing to anyone in particular but you all know who you are - smile).  Do not worry though.  They say that the best way to make a change is to admit the problem.  Then fix the problem.  Never too late to make improvements in our lives - inside or out.

If you need any help updating your look and honing in your brand, you know we are here to help!

Until next week - Yours in Beauty,

Jen & Rita

Fashion Diva in 5 Easy Steps

Who dictates what style is anyways?  Are you one of those ladies who does not want to be defined by “a” look?  I mean, look at all the different styles that are out there!?  There is the “goth” look described as dark, mysterious, and exotic and on the opposite end of the spectrum there is the Classic look described as
timeless and beautiful yet simple.  Then there is everything in between - punk, glam, diva, haut couture, conservative, vintage and the list goes on and on and on.  So I suppose that the best question to ask yourself is "What is my style?"  Whatever it is, there are five key elements to pulling off a style that will leave others wanting to see more.  Here are Pink Ink's top five personal style moves that every woman can achieve no matter what style or styles she may be:

1.        Is your hair coiffed? – run a comb through your mane.  Trust me, it makes a difference.  Treat yourself and get a wash and blowout.  There's nothing like someone rubbing your scalp - heavenly!
2.       Is your makeup on point? - At least wear the basics – foundation, blush, mascara, gloss.  Putting in an effort always puts you one step ahead of your competition (as we discussed last week!)
3.    Do you smell fresh? – B.O. is a huge no no.  Enough said.
4.      Do you look clean? – Ensure your nails are clean. Iron your clothes - nothing cute about wrinkles.  Wash your face - crusty eyes, day old liner and mascara under the eyes etc... - you know how it looks on others - don't let that be you.  Ensure your clothes are clean and not ripped (unless that’s the style).
5.   Make sure your clothes fit. – too big =frumpy; too small =bursting (need I say more?)
Part of creating your brand is honing down on your image.  Follow the above five tips and no matter what look you are trying to create – it will be memorable – for the right reasons!

Long hair = Beauty. Hmmmm, Really?

Ok Pink Ink fans and the rest of the World, I have a question for you.    Why do so many people love women with long hair?  For anyone who knows me, you will know that I LOVE to change my look – almost daily.  How you ask?  I change my hair – sometimes I will have my natural fro, a ponytail, twists, or wear a wig.  I love the versatility we as women have with our hair!
But I have to say, the look that gets the most talk and stares are the looks with the long hair!  Let me tell you a story.  One morning I went for a walk – nothing new – and I wore a new wig that is long and silky and has loose curls.  The ten minutes it took me to walk to my chiropractor I got a honk from a driver, a whistle and a number of stares - all before 9am.  A fluke you say?  Well anytime I wear wigs with long hair I get compliments.  It can be long and silky or long and curly.  It can be in a ponytail and long or it can be frizzy and long - the constant - length!  What's up with that?
“Oh Jen, it’s just you.  Maybe you just look better with long hair”.  Well I’d agree with you IF it was just me.    As a child, I observed quickly that many Jamaicans (my parent’s generation) equated long hair with beauty as demonstrated by the many aunts, uncles and friends who would constantly comment on my long, thick hair and have very few comments for my friend who had short hair.   Most of the magazine covers I see in the line at the grocery store have models or actresses with long hair.  The media today portrays long luscious hair with beauty and health.  Don't believe me?  Just check out all the Revlon, L’Oreal, and Garnier commercials!  How many of them have ladies with short hair?  I’m not saying they don’t have any, I’m just saying I haven’t seen any.
No worries, I won’t be getting a complex anytime soon.  I love my hair – all the different ways that I wear it – long, short, silky and frizzy.  I even love the hair that I have that I didn't grow!!  Thank you to my ladies making a buck off of selling their long hair.  It's all good!  I’m confident enough in myself to be alright with whatever hairstyle I want to sport on any particular day.  However, I’m just intrigued with the belief that long = beauty.  Hmmmmm? What do you think?

Keep in mind that I’m not complaining, I’m just making an observation.   I know ladies who would rather cut off an arm before they cut their hair and that’s ok.  But I want to send a shout out to all my girls with short hair – be fierce, be beautiful, be you!!!
