Makeup Blunders!

So, you know when you are doing your makeup and you are taking your time and then things are going well and you are looking in the mirror and thinking, "Dang, I did a good job with this, let me just add a little something here" (don't judge me, you know you say it too! - lol) and then OH NO!!!  It got messed up.  Well, no worries, Pink Ink to the rescue.  Actually, nothing I'm about to share with you is a trade secret of Pink Ink, but they are tricks that we've learned along the way and thought we'd share with you.

1.  Mascara got smudged and I'm scared if I wipe it, I will ruin the eye shadow makeup that I did! NO WORRIES!!   Here's the thing, this is common.  In fact, if you are able to apply your mascara without ever smudging then you are doing exceptionally well.  Just let it dry, get a q-tip and wipe it off.  You want your eye makeup to be blended anyways, so you're good - lol.  Actually, more often then not, your eye shadow will not even be affected.

2.  I've put on a dark/bright lip color and it smudged over the lip line.  NO WORRIES!!!  Again, take a q-tip, or a lip brush, dip it in a small patch of concealer (I like to put the concealer on the back of my hand and dip the brush in it.  But you don't have to do it that way) then dab on the area that you want to conceal.  You do not have to blend the concealer perfectly, it will "melt" into the skin.

3.  Ummmm, I used way too much blush and now I look like a clown!!!  Help me say it ladies - NO WORRIES!!!  So, you can fix this a couple of ways.  The first way is to take your foundation and rub over the overly blushed area.  It will dull the colour of the blush.  Please note, that if you use a powder blush use a powder foundation/pressed powder over the blush.  If you use a cream blush, use a liquid or powder foundation on top.  It can sometimes get a bit messy or have a "heavy look" when you mix liquid on top of powder.

These were the three top concerns provided to us.  Thank you for your questions and please keep them coming!  If you would like a one on one makeup tutorial or a girls' night makeup tutorial give us a call; email us at info@pinkinkimage or respond below with "I want to be Pinkinktified!"  Thanks for following us and sharing your time with us.  Until next time.

Got style?

Do you have style?  I'm not talking just putting on pretty clothes, but true style.  A "swagger" if you will.  What is swagger?  Well, it's that essence that surrounds someone when they walk into a room.  They look cool, chic, and seem like they got it all together - swagger!  So, back to the original question, do you have style?  I'm going to hazard a guess and say yes.  Many of you may be snickering and thinking "yeah, right.  If I had style I wouldn't be subscribing to Daily Glam!".  Well, all I have to say to that is this - We all have a sense of style, it's just a matter of knowing how to make that sense of style a reality.  Here are our top 5 rules to creating a "insert your name" style.

1.  Comfort - You can't rock something you are not comfortable in.  I learned this the hard way.  My clothes are always comfortable but my shoes - Lord have mercy.  So, I had to learn, that if I wanted to look good, feel good, and have 'swagger' I had to invest in some nice, comfortable and trendy shoes.

2.  Mentor - We all need a mentor - no matter who we are!  We have mentors in our careers, some of us in our personal endeavors, so why not have a mentor for clothing?   Find someone or more than one person whose style/look, you love.  Then make it your own.  This person could be someone famous, it could be a program like Daily Glam, it could be anyone.  Mimic and make it your own.

3.  Makeup - Let me tell you one of my pet peeves.  A woman who is looking well put together and then doesn't wear any makeup.  It's like going to an elegant dinner party with beautiful crystal with spots all over.  You may think I'm being dramatic but I'm serious!  Even just a little powder, mascara and gloss can make all the difference.  If it's a matter of not knowing how to put on makeup - don't worry.  Contact us, we will be happy to help you.

4.  Quality clothing - I have to say, I've worn really cheap clothes and really expensive clothes, and I have to admit, the expensive clothes helped me to walk just a little more swagger.  Ok, let me reword this, there are poor quality clothing and high quality clothing.  The high quality clothing wins every time.  Don't get me wrong, I do not invest a whole lot of money in my clothing.  I find sales - LOVE finding a great sale.  Love second hand stores too!  But I know what quality made clothing can do for you.  Trust me, it's worth it.

5.  Confidence - The most important ingredient to creating your own style.  You have to rock the confidence.  If you don't feel like you have it - FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT.  I'm all about being genuine, don't get me wrong, but sometimes, you have to create that confident diva you know you are before you actually feel like that confident diva you know you are.  Get what I mean?  Sometimes, our feelings have to catch up with our decision.

I wish I could go on and on because truly, I could write a few pages on each of the above.  However, stats tell me that making this blog any longer will lose your attention SO if you have questions and want the answers, contact us at info@pinkinkimage.com.  Your question may be one of the questions we answer on the blog!!  Also, send us pics.  We love to see pics of you and your swagger!

Til next time,

Pink Ink

Skin Love - Take Care of Your Skin

THIS POST WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED IN MAY 2014.  UPDATES HAVE BEEN MADE AND ARE ITALICIZED.

How did we come up with the ratings we came up with?
Well, all of the products got points for being effective.   It needs to be said that all of the product lines are effective.
They did what they claimed to do.

They all made a difference in the condition of our skin.

However,
certain products work better for certain people.  It really depends on your particular skin type.

Your budget will have a lot to do with it as well.  Don’t let the numbers scare you; women spend BILLIONS of dollars per year on skin care and cosmetics.  When you break down the costs to how much you spend per month - or even per day – it’s not that much.  You have to figure out which one will work with you.

We also looked at the packaging and ease of finding out the ingredients in the products (very important!!).

Now,  everyone is waiting to read what we use on our skin.

You may be surprised but here you go!

Jen:

I’ve had some skin issues over the last year.  I believe these issues are due to hormonal changes, age and stress (whether good or bad).  My issues resulted in scarring (which I mask well with Pink Ink’s liquid concealer – just sayin).  I was using Mary Kay for years and loved it.  However, over the last year I’ve had to try many other products to find the one that works best for me…
My current cocktail consists of the Aloette skin care line morning and night with Nucerity’s  Skincerity product at night in combination with the Aloette skin care line.
My scarring is fading, my skin is so soft and the acne has subsided significantly!!

UPDATE:  I'm still using Aloette.  Acne is completely gone.  Scarring has nearly disappeared.  Very happy with my skin care regime.

Rita:

I like easy.  I like quick.  Out of all of the products we tried, my favorite was the Aloette because of the scent and how it made my skin feel.  However, like I said,  I’m into easy and quick.  I use Cetaphil in the morning, Seacret mud soap at night and argan oil to moisturize.  That’s it!!

There are a few highlights that we'd like to point out that might make an impact on your decision.

If the steps involved in getting your skin into tip-top condition are of concern, you can see that Mary Kay and Luminesce will have you out the door with a shorter routine.

If you get flustered at the thought of a million products on your counter top, perhaps ENJO or Skincerity can alleviate that stress with fewer items involved.

Finally, we have provided you with a means to compare costs versus longevity.  ENJO's product/s last between 2 and 5 years, but don't include a moisturizer… the other end of the spectrum has Skincerity which lasts (on average) about a month.  Either of these might appeal to you if you don't want to repurchase often or if you want to keep only what you need today to avoid missing expiration dates.

Based on our testing of each of the skin care product lines, we have found a winner that works for us….

ALOETTE!!!

We encourage you to go back and read all of the information we have provided on each product we tested so that you can see our methods and results.

We'd like to thank all of the companies involved in our evaluation and would like to encourage you - our readers - to try each out for yourselves to find YOUR perfect skin care regime.

Please know that each of the representatives for the above products will gladly provide you with a complimentary consultation (we’ve listed a few for you below).

Let's all go nude!!!!!

Where is your mind at?  I'm talking about lipsticks silly.  Yes, the new fashion trend (well not really new, but very, very popular) this coming season is a nude lip or a red lip.  It seems like extremes doesn't it?  Anyways, just want to say, and this is important to say, NOT ALL NUDE LIPSTICK HAS TO BE THE COLOR NUDE!!!  What makes a nude lipstick truly nude is how it looks on YOU.  So, if you are darker skin toned, you are not going for the light beigy nude lipstick.  That is going to make you look sick!  Or, if you are olive skin toned, you may go for more of a peachy lip color to achieve the nude lip look.  See, the secret to a great nude lip is if it adds vibrancy to your face.  If you try a lip color and you look sick, or void of color, it's not the right shade.  Let's help you out shall we?  It should be noted that we went to our friends from Us Weekly and InStyle magazine to get just the right pics to show you the differences in nude lipsticks.  Enjoy!!

You will notice that Rachel's lipcolor has a peachy tone.  It brings out the color in her face and compliments the color in her hair.  If she were wearing a very beige color it may wash out her face!

Is your complexion a light brown?  Jordin's nude lip has a bit of brown/plum in it.  It's not overbearing at all and compliments her skintone perfectly.

For fair toned ladies, a hint of pink in your lip screams perfection!

Do you have a tawny complexion?  Try a color with a hint of orange!  Notice how her lips are not overstated and it looks as though that could actually be the color of her lip just enhanced?  That's the goal you are going for.

Olive skin tone?  A great nude lip look has some red and pink in it.  Brings out the color in your face and you will notice, allows for the eyes to shine!!  When you look at this pic, I see eyes!  Nude lips are great paired with an accented eye makeup look.  Btw - olive skin tones can wear that beigy color as well - just sayin.

Darker skin tone - go for a gloss with a hint of color.  In this example, Gabrielle went for a pinky neutral tone.  A bit of shimmer is nice too.

Question for you ladies.  Is this a nude lipstick tone?

The answer is YES!!!  Who would wear it?  Our darker toned sisters that's who.  So when we say that a nude lipstick is not just beige or a light lipstick, we're serious.  What is nude for one may not be nude for another so consider the following  when you are choosing a nude lipstick for yourself:

1.  What is my skin tone?

2.  What is the undertone of my lip?

3.  Does the color compliment my whole look that I'm trying to achieve?

A knowledgeable makeup artist will be able to help you choose a great nude lip color that is right for you.

Let me ask you a question and ponder it - some of you will get it and some won't but that's ok.

When you look in the mirror after a shower and you look at your nude skin, what color do you see?  Not all nudes are created equal.

Yours in beauty,

Pink Ink

p.s.  when sporting a nude lip it is best to go with a fierce eye makeup look.  just an fyi.

Questions?  Please do not hesitate to ask and you may find your question in one of our blog posts with a very detailed explanation!  Contact us at info@pinkinkimage.com

Concealers - NICE!!

This post won't be long but it will be strong.  A little while ago we did a Tip of the day post on facebook called Concealer - A girl's best friend.  Many of us do not have perfect skin - but we can sure look like we do!  Concealers help to mask the imperfections that we all have.  You can use them to brighten under the eye area, to cover acne/bruising, or to even out your skin tone. The first thing that we must know and understand is to know when to use which color of concealer.  To help with this, let's take a look at the colour wheel.

\

So the trick is to choose the color of concealer that is opposite of the color of the issue you are trying to hide.  For example, peach/pink toned concealers cover blue under eye circles; green toned concealers cover redness (especially good to cover acne); and yellow toned concealers help even out uneven skin tones.

Another special tip - did you know that the right use of a concealer can shave 5lbs off of your face?  It is called contouring.  If you go to youtube there are thousands of videos to show you step by step how to effectively contour your face.  However, if you think of dark receding and light bringing forward.  The correct placement of each of these colours of concealer (light and dark) can provide the illusion of a thinner you.  I grabbed a pic from the internet to show you what I mean:

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/76/c9/a1/76c9a138674feb2066e6fcc86d48f1b7.jpg

Same girl, beautiful before and after.  Her face just looks more sculpted and, well, smaller after using the concealer.  Please note that I am not saying that smaller or thinner is better.  I am saying, that there are many women who would like to be able to conceal certain attributes of their faces for whatever reason.  I'm just showing you how.  There are so many things we can do with concealers and so many tricks to share!

Visit back for more tips and tricks using the tool of makeup next week!  Or, if you just can't wait and want to know more contact us and we will share our tips and tricks with you.  email us at info@pinkinkimage.com.
If you want to share your question with the world, we will do a weekly blog on your most pressing questions about makeup and style.  We can't do them all at one time but we will choose two or three burning questions and answer them for you right here!

Have a beautiful day beautiful!!
